The launch of any new console is normally met with sports games aplenty, and that tradition will continue with the Nintendo Wii U. Sports games have mass appeal and are easy enough to adapt to new hardware tech without requiring a huge investment, so it makes sense from a business perspective.
A total of seven games are due out for the holiday season launch window, spanning a diverse range of athletic disciplines. This season’s Madden, FIFA and NBA 2K franchises have the major league sports sim category covered. Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2013 offers the obligatory fitness-trainer-on-a-disc exercise program. Finally, the exercise through mini-games casual category is well represented by Wii Fit U, ESPN Sports Connection and Game Party Champions, three games that look to put the Wii U GamePad to use in creative and potentially innovative ways.
