Previously released in Japan as RIZ-ZOAWD, The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road is coming to North America this fall courtesy of XSEED Games.

The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road, created by Wild ARMs developer Media.Vision, is a traditional console-style RPG for the DS inspired by Dorothy’s adventure through the Land of Oz with her dog, Toto, and companions the Scarecrow, Lion and Tin Man. The game is set to retell the beloved tale of the movie with “a unique new perspective on what happened after reaching the end of the Yellow Brick Road.”

In the game you will take control of Dorothy, Toto, the Scarecrow, Lion and Tin Man as your party of RPG heroes and explore the Land of Oz to defeat four evil witches. Slay the witches and Dorothy will be granted a return trip to Kansas. You’ll explore the 3D game world using a trackball on the bottom screen to control Dorothy’s movements, and as you run into enemies you’ll enter first-person turn-based battles a la classic Dragon Quest titles.

Here’s an early peek at what the game looks like.
