There Will Be Portable BioShock After All (But Not on the Vita)

While all hope for the prematurely announced and hyped PlayStation Vita BioShock game to ever actually get made has been dashed, 2K does have a portable, non-vaporware BioShock game in active development.

No, it’s not a brand new BioShock, so don’t go getting too excited. 2K China is working on a “premium priced” iOS port of the original BioShock to be playable on iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, iPad 4, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, and iPhone 5 sometime “later this summer.”

As I’m sure you’ve already noticed from the pictured screenshots, the texture detail and lighting in the Art Deco underwater utopia of Rapture have been pulled back quite a bit from the big daddy PC and console versions, understandably so. However, the game doesn’t look terrible by any means, and simply seeing BioShock playable on a mobile device is a technical feat worth marveling at.

BioShock on iOS will contain the complete original experience coupled with optimized touchscreen controls. If touch screen controls for an FPS aren’t your thing, the game will also support various iOS gamepad controllers.
