It wasn’t that long ago when the PS3 was viewed as a console with very few good games. That was never exactly true even dating back to the console’s launch, but for a while there the Wii and Xbox 360 did have deeper lineups of exclusive games, no doubt about it. Now, after two solid years of game releases, the PS3 is poised for its strongest year to date.
The guys over at the US PlayStation blog put together a list of 20 top games that will only be available on the PS3 in 2011, and the list is absolutely staggering. Take a look.
Ar tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel
Hyperdimension Neptunia
The Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection
inFAMOUS 2
Journey
Killzone 3
The Last Guardian
LittleBigPlanet 2
MLB 11 The Show
MotorStorm Apocalypse
No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise
PixelJunk Shooter 2
PlayStation Move Heroes
Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One
Resistance 3
SOCOM 4
Sorcery
Twisted Metal
UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception
Yakuza 4
Done drooling yet? OK, I’ll let you take a moment to wipe your mouth…
Off the top of my head, I can only think of five (maybe ten if I really tried) major exclusives each coming to the Wii and Xbox 360 this year of particular interest, so the PS3 lineup stands out all the more. Doubly so considering it leaves off some other exclusives like Disgaea 4, Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll, Virtua Tennis 4, the HD remake of Stranger’s Wrath (this one may also come to the 360, but as of now it’s only confirmed for PS3) and the Tomb Raider Trilogy. And triply so when you factor in the inevitable appearance of other unannounced games.
Of course, it would surprise no one if some of these games slipped out of 2011 and into 2012 — The Last Guardian is my most anticipated game of the year, but I do question whether or not it will actually make it out this year — so we’ll have to wait and see if if things stay on track.
Anyway… the fun kicks off next week with the launch of LittleBigPlanet 2. So if you don’t have a PS3 yet, get one right NOW! And if you do, start saving your pennies, because you’re in for one expensive year.
