Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 Shows Off a New Swing

Apparently an old dog can learn new tricks. EA Sports announced Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 (the 22nd season in the popular golf simulation franchise!) this week, and the big news is that it’s not sticking with the same old golf game. Serving as Tiger’s virtual swing coaches, the developers at EA Tiburon have reconstructed the game’s swing mechanic in a major way. Supposedly it’s the most drastic swing change in the series in over a decade. Lead Designer Mike DeVault demonstrates the new techniques for controlling swing tempo, ball position and stance in the following video walkthrough.

It’s definitely different (actually more of a hybrid of various elements from previous seasons with some new touches), but like Tiger in real life I think his video game franchise needs this lifestyle change. The video game didn’t get caught sleeping around with porn stars but it has grown pretty stale in recent years. I like what I see so far.

Tiger Woods 13 sports more than a revamped swing too. When the game ships for PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 27th, it’ll feature 22 licensed golf pros (Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson have been confirmed), Kinect support on the Xbox 360 for full-body swing control and voice command integration, PlayStation Move support in the PS3 version, a new legacy feature for reliving memorable golf accomplishments in Tiger’s career, and Online Country Clubs.

A Masters Collector’s Edition will also be sold with exclusive bonus content, including access to Augusta National Golf Club’s Tournament practice facility, the steeped-in-tradition Augusta National Par 3 Course, an authentic Green Jacket Presentation, a “chance to explore the hallowed grounds like never before,” and five additional courses to play on. The standard edition will sell for $60, the Masters Collector’s Edition for $70. Both versions will be part of the EA Sports Season Ticket program.
