Scheduled to hit sometime next year, the folks at Crystal Dynamics are poised to release a rehash of the original Tomb Raider for its tenth anniversary. Of course, technology has improved quite a bit over the past decade and as a result the team will be using the same engine seen in the recent Tomb Raider: Legend. Take a gander at the debut trailer that was released today. While the first part of it is CGI, the later half is actual gameplay footage, which doesn’t look half bad.

Looking good, looking good. I’ve really only ever liked the original game in the series, and I appreciated how well CD resurrected the franchise with Legend (though the gunplay needed some serious work), so I’m looking forward to see how they do with the remake. As long as it plays like Legend and remains true to the original it should be sweet, I just hope they take the time to further enhance some of the Legend gameplay engine rather than do a rush job to meet the anniversary. I also don’t get why it’s not coming to the PS3 or 360, but who knows, those versions are probably in the works.
