Frozenbyte today lifts the veil on Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power, the epic third installment in the Trine series of fantasy puzzle-platformers, and the first new release since Trine 2‘s original launch late in 2011. (Man, has it really been that long? It doesn’t feel like Trine 2 is that old, maybe because it still looks so gosh darn gorgeous after all these year. I guess this third game is long overdue.)

Details about Trine 3 are slim at this point, but from the announcement trailer the game appears to be introducing new elements of three-dimensional gameplay to give greater world depth to the standard 2D platforming of the previous titles, which is a logical evolutionary step forward for the series to take.

Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power doesn’t have an exact release date yet, but it is scheduled for this year. The game will launch first on PC. Console plans have not yet been confirmed.
