Use an Authentic Controller for your Authentic Virtual Console Games

NEStoGCConverter.jpgOne of the biggest selling points on the Wii is the Virtual Console. This service allows players to purchase retro titles from the NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, and even the TurboGrafx-16. While on some of the games you can easily turn the Wii remote sideways to mimic a Nintendo controller, nearly every game is guaranteed to work with the GameCube or Wii’s Virtual Console controller.

While playing some of these retro games, such as The Legend of Zelda, something always felt a little off kilter. Perhaps I was just being particular, but it seemed odd using a next-generation controller on a complete copy of an NES title. Luckily someone else realized this too and has released a set of NES to GameCube and SNES to GameCube converters for the Wii.

By heading over to RetroZone, you can pick up converters for $19 each that will take the signals given by your old NES or SNES controller and map them to the corresponding buttons on the GameCube. For a simple converter, $19 may be a little expensive, but if you or another loved one is looking for that authentic retro experience these are definitely the way to go. Now the only problem might be finding an original controller for these systems if you don’t already have them.
