Yep, the main quest of the game is lame. Took me maybe 10 hours tops to finish, and even that was padded by a couple hours spent with this fun shooting gallery mini-game and some of the pub gambling games. Those side things were definitely more fun than going through the motions with the tired story. Some of the side quests are more involved than the main quest line, but most are standard hunt and fetch type quests. I have read elsewhere that the worst thing about the game is the main parts … that the side-quests were fun distractions that made you dread returning to the awful story.
