The Nintendo 3DS is off to a sluggish start, and for a lot of reasons. I’m sure the crap economy has something to do with it, as does the questionable launch timing in March when many of the system’s major online features weren’t even available. But the lackluster reception can also be chalked up to a lack of standout, must-have games, and to the 3D selling point turning out to be the useless gimmick many of us thought it would be.<\/p>\n

Obviously Nintendo isn’t too happy with the handheld’s performance–it hasn’t even cracked 1 million units sold in the U.S. yet–because today the house that Mario built has announced what has to be the swiftest and deepest price cut of a video game system that I can ever remember.<\/p>\n

After less than five months on the market at $249.99, the Nintendo 3DS will now sell for $169.99, effective August 12th. That’s an $80 drop off!<\/p>\n
