Portal 2 was already an amazing game when it released back in April. But the few minor details that were missing from the game are being addressed. Perhaps not as promptly as desired, but when Valve is kind enough to update games for free this far after release, you can hardly complain about having to wait.

No Challenge Mode or leaderboards? Valve added that good stuff in the “Peer Review” DLC released earlier this month. Now how about a map editor? Yep, that’s coming too!

Planned for release in early 2012 at no additional charge (platforms have not yet been disclosed), the Portal 2 map editor will give players the chance to do what they’ve always wanted to do: Tap into their inner GLaDOS and create custom test chambers for single-player and co-op play. Once uploaded, other players will be able to download and vote on user-created maps.

Valve promises that the editor will be “easy-to-use,” but specifics about the design process and interface beyond that vague description haven’t been announced. However, from the two early screenshots, the editor interface appears to be cleanly laid out and very approachable.

Portal 2 was already an amazing game when it released back in April.
