Another standout Ubisoft E3 reveal, which is actually a complete reworking of the Killer Freaks From Outer Space game shown during last year’s E3, is ZombiU for the Wii U. There frankly haven’t been many Wii U games worth getting all worked up over thus far, but ZombiU is definitely one of the early few.

Sure, ZombiU is yet another zombie survival-horror shooter, but this one actually does some pretty sweet stuff with the Wii U GamePad, from scanning environments, to cycling through the inventory, to physically brutalizing a zombie with a pickaxe by swinging the controller.

Even cooler is the plot setup. The game takes place during a 2012 zombie outbreak in London, where players will fight for survival by embodying a new survivor each time they die. Then the player’s former character, now an infected brain eater, can be hunted down in order to recover previously scavenged gear.

Multiplayer will also play out in a unique way compared to other FPS titles. One player will take the role of a Zombie Master, commanding a horde of zombies from a top-down perspective on the GamePad touchscreen, while a second player, armed with a Wii U Pro Controller, will fight to survive from the traditional first-person perspective.

ZombiU shows great potential to be a must-have Wii U launch title. Just cross your fingers it doesn’t fall flat like the equally hyped but ultimately disappointing Ubisoft Wii launch title, Red Steel.
