Luigi is taking over New Super Mario Bros. U<\/em><\/a> this summer in the New Super Luigi U<\/em> downloadable content pack, featuring 82 alternate levels and Nabbit as an invincible multiplayer character. But dammit, this is the Year of Luigi<\/a>. He deserves better than being relegated to DLC.<\/p>\n

Nintendo corrects this oversight by confirming plans to ship a standalone retail version of New Super Luigi U<\/em> for players who either don’t own New Super Mario Bros. U<\/em>, or who do but would prefer to own a physical copy of the content rather than DLC. Who wouldn’t want to have that beautiful green box on full display in their video game library? Seriously, that thing is stunning, like a precious emerald gemstone of video game packaging.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately there are two downsides. The retail version of New Super Luigi U<\/em> will cost more ($29.99 compared to $19.99 for digital), and it will come out two whole months later than the digital update. New Super Mario Bros. U<\/em> owners will be able to purchase the add-on from the eShop on June 20th, but the packaged edition won’t ship until August 25th. <\/p>\n

What up with that? Does it really take that long to print packaging and burn the game onto discs? I suppose Nintendo just wants a couple extra months to sell more copies of New Super Mario Bros. U<\/em> before selling Luigi’s solo version to gamers who don’t already need to own a copy. Makes sense to me.<\/p>\n
