Around these parts, Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation turned out to be a whole lot better than big brother Assassin’s Creed III, but as a PlayStation Vita exclusive the game didn’t reach a large chunk of the franchise’s core audience. These fans missed one hell of a story starring Aveline, the series’ first female assassin lead.

Ubisoft recently announced plans to rectify this terrible injustice with a PC and console adaptation of the portable side story. That adaptation, known officially as Assassin’s Creed: Liberation HD, we now know will be available as a digital download on PS3 on January 14, 2014, and on PC on January 15. An Xbox 360 version is coming too, but currently doesn’t have a confirmed launch date beyond “early 2014.”

Sorry to disappoint Vita owners, but Liberation HD looks to be the definitive version of the game, offering new missions to further explore Aveline’s back story, dramatically improved graphics (check the above comparison shot), and fully remastered audio. All for only $19.99.
