Early Xbox One adopters and loyal Xbox 360 owners have some fun multiplayer mayhem to look forward to early next year.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, the Team Fortress 2 style 12v12 third-person shooter spin-off on PopCap’s smash-hit tower defense series, has now officially been slotted into a North American launch date of February 18, 2014. That’s actually earlier than expected for a change, as the original announcement at E3 listed the game for a spring release.

Garden Warfare will be exclusive to Xbox One and Xbox 360 at launch, sold at retailers for $39.99 and $29.99, respectively. A PC version also remains in development to launch at a later time. I sure hope EA and PopCap eventually bring this over to PlayStation consoles as well after a timed exclusivity period, because the more folks that can play it the merrier, I say. But who knows what kind of deal EA has worked out for this one seeing as the company’s other major next gen title, Titanfall, will remain exclusive to Xbox and Windows forever.

Either way, it looks like undecided next gen console customers might have to bump up their schedule on buying an Xbox One now. This game looks way more fun than any of the next gen launch titles I’m seeing so far. Don’t believe me? Check out the new gameplay demo footage below for a guided overview of the game’s wide range of customizable plant and zombie classes.
