Danny “Shadow64” Mastrangelo, the lone developer at Silhouette Games, has his first game up on Kickstarter with plenty of funding ground to make up in the campaign’s five remaining days.

The game is History of the Demon Girl, an NES-style pixelated 2D runner that pulls inspiration from Dante’s The Divine Comedy and mixes in gameplay elements from titles like Bit.Trip Runner and SonSon with the type of quirky, random humor of a Katamari Damacy.

In the game you play as Roku, the demon girl, who must race through the 9 Circles of Hell in order to escape eternal damnation. A playable browser demo with four levels is available to sample on Kongregate. The gameplay involves pushing the up and down arrow keys to jump Roku between three different paths as she sprints forward automatically, all the while collecting tokens (which provide a speed boost), freeing souls, and avoiding hands that reach up from the ground to grab her.

Like a classic NES game, History of the Demon Girl has great chiptunes and a simple gameplay hook that steadily lures you back to improve your scores and speedrun times. Go take a run through hell and maybe kick in a pledge if you like what you see.

History of the Demon Girl – A Comedic Journey Through Hell [Kickstarter]
