As should have been an option at launch, Microsoft will soon finally begin to offer Xbox One consoles untethered from the Kinect voice command and motion control sensor. This Kinect-less Xbox One SKU will be reduced to a cheaper price point as a result. Hurray!

Instead of paying $499.99 for an Xbox One with mandatory (and to this point unnecessary) Kinect, buying standalone Xbox One hardware will only cost $399.99, matching the price of rival Sony’s PlayStation 4. Sold-separately Xbox Ones are scheduled to go on sale beginning June 9th.

Microsoft will also begin to sell standalone Xbox One Kinect sensors this fall. Specifics about pricing and a release date are still to be announced, but just know that if you buy the Xbox One by itself and then decide you would like to upgrade your arsenal with a Kinect down the road, that option will be available.

June will be a huge month for Xbox One for many other reason as well. During the first month of summer, Microsoft plans to provide even more value to Xbox Live users, including an expansion of Games with Gold to offer free monthly game downloads to Xbox 360 and Xbox One users, monthly Deals with Gold sales and discounts, and access to popular apps like Machinima, Twitch, Netflix, HBO GO, Internet Explorer, Skype and various sports experiences without requiring an Xbox Live Gold subscription.
