Last night during the pre-game show before the 2008 NBA Finals tipped off, 2K Sports officially unveiled Kevin Garnett as the cover athlete for NBA 2K9<\/em>, which is due out this October for PS3, PS2 and Xbox 360 (I would’ve told you last night as well, but I was too busy, you know, actually watching the game). Clearly being named cover athlete fueled KG on as he led his Boston Celtics to a tough win over the LA Lakers in game one. OK, so it didn’t really<\/em> have any impact on his performance, but that doesn’t mean \u201cThe Big Ticket\u201d isn’t psyched about the honor. On the contrary, he’s actually as psyched as you’re ever going to see a cover athlete:<\/p>\n

\u201cNBA 2K is where it\u2019s AT! End of story,\u201d said Garnett, who is currently playing in the NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. \u201cIt\u2019s the game I play, the game my friends play, and the game anyone in the league serious about videogames plays. NBA 2K is the real deal, and until 2K Sports find a way to plant an elbow in your chest, it\u2019s the closest thing to actually being there on the court. I can\u2019t tell you how pumped I am to be on the cover of NBA 2K9 \u2013 it\u2019s a real honor. Now watch out! Because this fall 2K Sports and I are going to deliver the best basketball video game out there, period.\u201c<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
