Ubisoft’s holiday ’09 lineup has taken a serious hit today with the publisher announcing delays for two high profile titles. Both Red Steel 2<\/em> for the Wii and Splinter Cell: Conviction<\/em> for PC\/Xbox 360 have been pushed from the third fiscal quarter to the fourth fiscal quarter, a move that sees both games slipping into the release period between January and March of 2010 and leaves Assassin’s Creed 2<\/em> as Ubisoft’s primary breadwinner for the holiday season.<\/p>\n

These delays have also led to the delay of two other titles. The next Ghost Recon<\/em> and secretive survival\/adventure game I am Alive<\/em>, which were both originally scheduled for the Q1 2010 launches now taken over by Red Steel 2<\/em> and Splinter Cell: Conviction<\/em>, have joined Ubisoft’s lineup for fiscal 2010-11 which runs from April 1, 2010 to March 31st, 2011. <\/p>\n

News of all these delays comes on the back of Ubisoft’s first-quarter financial release which reports a 51% decline in sales from last year.<\/p>\n

Yves Guillemot, Chief Executive Officer, stated: “We are currently experiencing a very sharp slowdown in our sales for Nintendo DS as well as sales of back-catalog titles, in the context of a market that is tougher than anticipated. This will have a significant impact on our first-half showing. Against this backdrop, the solid performance of our Wii titles combined with the successful launches of Anno and Call of Juarez are points of satisfaction and demonstrate that good products are continuing to sell well. We are disappointed that we have to postpone the release of several major games but we consider that this choice is the best one in the long-term interests of Ubisoft. Lastly, we are having to adjust our full-year targets to take into account the fall in business over the first half. The excellent response to our games at E3, as well as the high buzz generated for titles such as Assassin’s Creed 2, Splinter Cell Conviction and Avatar, reinforce our belief that the company can achieve strong growth in the second half of the fiscal year.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
