Microsoft Game Studios has announced that Crackdown<\/em> has officially gone gold today and is locked in for its previously announced February 20th debut on the Xbox 360. Developed by Realtime Worlds, Crackdown<\/em> is the latest title in what I like to call the “GTA<\/em> clone” genre, combining third-person shooting and driving with a massive freeform 3D environment to wreak havoc in, all taking place over a lengthy single-player campaign or in co-op mode online via Xbox Live.<\/p>\n

Of course, Crackdown<\/em>‘s major selling point right now is that those who purchase specially marked copies will gain access to the Halo 3<\/em> multiplayer beta program, which has me worried that the game may not be so hot — we shall see. And as previously reported<\/a>, the Crackdown demo<\/em> release, which was originally supposed to launch yesterday, is still scheduled to find its way onto the Xbox Live Marketplace by month’s end, so it’ll be good to see how the game is shaping up in advance and find out if it can hold up on its own.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
