Man, this just isn’t my year. Earlier in the year I lost two PC mice<\/a>. My Xbox 360 was the next to go, red ringing for the third time last month<\/a>. And now, with a heavy heart, I mourn the death of my launch PS3.<\/p>\n

That’s right, y’all. My PS3 has died. Yesterday afternoon I was playing some Borderlands<\/em> trying to finish it up when suddenly my PS3 shut down during a loading screen. I didn’t think much of it at first, but when I tried to turn it back on it only ran for a few seconds before shutting down again, leaving me with a blinking red power light every time I tried. According to the manual, the blinking red light is an indication that the system overheated, and that all I needed to do was clean up the vents and let it cool down.<\/p>\n

So that’s what I did. I kicked back on the sofa for a typical Sunday of NFL action and left the system alone for at least five hours or so. Then last night I tried it again and was able to get it to stay on for a couple minutes — long enough to back up a few important save files — but it continued to shut down with the red blinking light warning.<\/p>\n

But now it seems my PS3 is officially fried (and no, that’s not my PS3 pictured above in case you were wondering, it didn’t blow up or anything). After a night’s rest, I just went to check my PS3 for signs of life only to find it giving me the “yellow light of death” upon attempts to boot it up, which apparently means the system has suffered some sort of fatal hardware failure.<\/p>\n

I’m really at a loss for words at this point. I’ve got a dead PS3 and a dead Xbox 360 with reviewables stacking up by the day during the busiest time of the year. Time to scramble together a back-up plan…<\/p>\n
