The Fed-Ex guy made a surprise delivery here Wednesday afternoon. Expecting to find perhaps a couple other titles that should hopefully be coming in soon (like MAG<\/em>, White Knight Chronicles<\/em>, Shadow of Destiny<\/em>, etc.), I discovered the mysterious Heavy Rain<\/em><\/a> package pictured above.<\/p>\n

Upon opening the box, a motion sensor triggered a speaker and a woman’s voice asked, “Are you prepared to suffer to save your son?,” and inside I discovered an early review build of the forthcoming PS3 adventure game from Indigo Prophecy<\/em> developer Quantic Dream along with a blood-tipped origami thingy, a set of cards with art and info on the game’s four playable characters, a 4-page, faux newspaper with stories providing additional background on the game’s plot, and other press materials.<\/p>\n

I was worried initially because the review build looked like it was meant for use on a debug console (which I don’t have), but thankfully it plays just fine on my retail PS3 slim.<\/p>\n

Heavy Rain<\/em> pours down on retailers on February 23rd, but Sony’s review embargo lifts on the 10th, so I’ll report back with a review sometime between then and the official launch date. About an hour in, it’s certainly a unique, evocative experience, and the graphics and audio are simply phenomenal. Now I’ll have to dig out my old PS2 copy of Indigo Prophecy<\/em> to do some comparing\/contrasting, just for kicks.<\/p>\n
