Lara Croft appears to be shedding her Tomb Raider<\/em> title. Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have announced her next game today, and the words Tomb Raider<\/em> are nowhere to be found.<\/p>\n

Details about the game itself are nil, but we do know that the game is titled Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light<\/em><\/a>, and that it will be released sometime this year as a digital download. Platforms have not been confirmed, but going by series history I would expect to see it on PC, PSN and XBLA. Crystal Dynamics also says the game is “completely new and very different to what people might be expecting,” so that probably explains why it doesn’t carry the Tomb Raider<\/em> franchise tag.<\/p>\n

Could this be the Tomb Raider<\/em> RPG spin-off so many of us joked about when Square Enix bought Eidos? I seriously doubt it, but my interest has been piqued nonetheless. <\/p>\n
