You Haven’t Seen a Ninja Gaiden Game Like This Before

Comcept’s Keiji Inafune, of Mega Man, Onimusha and Dead Rising fame, has joined forces with Team Ninja and Spark Unlimited to put a comic book zombie spin on the Ninja Gaiden franchise.

First appearing at last year’s Tokyo Game Show, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z is not the Ninja Gaiden you’re accustomed to. For starters, series hero Ryu Hayabusa is actually the antagonist this time. The main playable character is an anti-hero and the arch-enemy of Ryu, a zombified cyborg ninja by the name of Yaiba. A previous encounter with Ryu has left him with cybernetic replacements for body parts dismembered by his nemesis. Obviously, Yaiba’s pissed, and thus his back-from-the-dead quest for revenge begins.

Standing between Yaiba and Ryu, are mobs of zombies. Yes, it’s another franchise following the increasingly tired zombie spin-off routine, but at least here everything is given the added pop and pizazz of a stylized Western comic book.
